My first time here was back in the 2007.  I read about Mr. Fish and Chips on Kirk’s blog.

Everything is fried in a light tempura type batter.  Gives the food good crunch and a mild fried flavor.

Fried cod and onion rings.

Fresh cod is the only fried fish choice.  Has a nice mild flavor and is juicy inside.

mr.fish.1421Onion rings have a rich fried onion flavor.

mr.fish.1419Zucchini gushes juices with every bite.  Big pieces of zucchini taste mostly of zucchini.  One of these days I’ll have to try the fried shrimp.

It was a dark time when this place closed for almost a year due to a fire.  I had to go to more expensive fish and chip places till they reopened.

When they reopened I noticed the British Pub type decor matching the food.  Fancy outdoor dining area looks like a great spot to eat under the stars in the summer.  Luckily the prices haven’t gone up.  🙂

mr.fish.1418The owner is nice and the water is now filtered and very clean and fresh tasting.

Thanks for the mention Soo! I wish we had more of these mom-and-pop type places in the area.

You are welcome Kirk! It would be nice if there were more options. I’d love to be able to get some fried mahi mahi or some southern style fried catfish…

I saw this place when I visited the Vons next door (and 85c). The batter looks pretty thick but crunchy. Do they fry everything to order? I haven’t had awesome fried zucchini in ages. Do they offer ranch dressing?

You should try it Faye! Everything is made to order. There are parts of the batter that is thick but not too thick where it gets like a ball of play doh. It’s all crunchy. I’m pretty sure there is ranch dressing in little containers but I eat my fried zucchini plain. This fried zucchini is as close as it gets to Del Mar Fair fried zucchini.
