Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant

Valley Circle Theater
A single screen theater in the Mission Valley section of San Diego. One of three in it’s heyday (the other two were the Center and Cinema 21). Anchored the Mission Valley West Center before its demolition. Opened by National General Theatres on December 23, 1966 with Peter Sellers in “After the Fox”. The theatre had 922 seats, all on a single level. It was closed and demolished in early-1998.

I remember being here in 1977 for Star Wars.  Valley Circle Theater was one of the best places in town to see 70mm Dolby films.  The line wound around the building for months.  The theatre was among the fanciest in town.  I was sad when they tore it down.

Now I see Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant with fancy valet parking.  Menu is huge but the fish and chips was the thing that excited me.

gordon.brewery.6661Fried cod had a crunchy beer batter shell. Cod was delicate and juicy.  Delicious mix of flavors from the salty batter and the mild cod.  French fries were the standard fast food fry cooked perfectly with a crunchy outside and hot fluffy inside.  I like the fresh oil they used which didn’t leave any nasty aftertaste.

gordon.brewery.6662Place is modern fancy looking.  I’d come back again for the fish and chips or to try a burger.

        Cool!

  2. I used to LOVE Gordon Biersch!! I remember when I started low carb-ing, they would just ‘boil’ (in hot water) the calamari for me (versus breading and deep frying). I remember, fondly, the beautiful beer silo things that you could just stare at while having drinks with friends at this location. I’m glad they’re still around and doing well. Especially with all the craft breweries in existence now.

    1. Nice! Why did you stop going? The fish and chips were great!
