The road is long but there are beautiful sights to see on the way. We drove at night on the 101 to avoid the LA traffic.
First stop was at the Golden Dragon in Chinatown LA as we were hungry.
House special chow mein was a huge plate of egg noodles and assorted meats. I loved the mix of flavors from the egg noodles, chicken, char sui, and shrimp. I did notice the quality of the char sui was poor today. Some of the pieces had fat or tendon making it chewy.
House special won ton soup had a good assortment of ingredients with chicken and shrimp. Won tons had small piece of pork inside.
Mango jello was smooth and sweet.
Back outside Chinatown was pretty empty. Not much night life.
Some more driving and we stopped overnight at the Crystal Lodge in Ventura.
It’s cute and only $80 a night.
While it has dual pane windows I was woken by trucks going by in the morning as we were facing the road.
The staff was nice and I’d spend the night there again. Ventura seemed like a nice sleepy seaside town.
Happy 4th of July!
