In 1926 Helene Strybing in her will, left money for the construction of the Arboretum in Golden Gate Park San Francisco. The donation was in 1939 about $ 200,000. Additional money was left for her siblings and other organizations that work for the welfare of sick, children and animals. The arboretum officially opened in May 1940.
She had a tree named after her; Leptospermum scoparium ‘Helene Strybing’ (New Zealand Tea Tree)
This botanical garden encompasses 55 acres and is sectioned off depicting many different climates. Spent the whole day taking pictures (estimate about 500) so much to see, smell and experience here!
8,000 kinds of different plants from around the world! It’s easy to get a bit overwhelmed at first due to the large size and sheer acreage. Just follow the maps, take one section at a time, hydrate and soak in the wonderful presence of the trees and the foliage while sitting on one of many bench’s throughout the park.
My favorite spot by far, the Redwood forest! The strong aroma of the trees hits you with the fist step in. Secondly the stunning silence surrounds you.
Beautiful, serene park, nice place to spend a day.
Wow! You have gotten better with the camera and photoshop! Looks like what I would have done…
Why thank you, I try to learn something different each time. :>)
Beautiful pictures! I haven’t been to the gardens since I was in elementary school for a field trip lol! Definitely adding it to my list for my next visit!
Aww, thank you! Oh yes you definitely are overdue to visit the Gardens again!
