Place is a time machine. I am transported back to a time before I was born.
Walls and the door emanate a feeling I get when touching ancient redwoods. Both survivors from another age. Lee family started making Cantonese style preserved meats in Chinatown in 1856. There are sights and scents here of preserved meats you will never see in your local grocery store.
Some of the meats I’m not sure what animal it’s from.
I come here for the artisanal Chinese sausage. It’s the best I’ve ever had. Rice wine comes through strong but there are many complex flavors. Makes grocery store Chinese sausage taste bland in comparison. I only buy Kam Yen Jang vacuum sealed Chinese sausage at the grocery store when I run out and can’t wait till the next San Francisco trip.
Chinese lady who helps me always ask if I want a pound per bag and always stuffs them over. I take one last deep breath of the delicious scents before going back out into the bright lights of the city.

You are wise. Drive me there!
1856 is a long time to be making these sausages. Do you use them in fried rice? It says Shipping Available on the label so I’ll have to try them out if I get a chance.
It’s a classic recipe! 🙂 I use to sausage to make fried rice, stir fry, and scrambled eggs.
