Havana Grill San Diego

Fricasé de Pollo

I love Cuban food, so when we decided to go here I was excited to try out their dishes. Met the owner, Sandra Cardet on my first visit. She was busily tending to all of her customers, happily going from table to table.

Braised Chicken, light wine & organic tomato sauce, onions, peppers, olives, potatoes

Brown rice, beans and plantain

On one of our visits, it turned out to be the day Fidel Castro died. Free Champagne was offered. On yet another visit we enjoyed going with one of our friends.

When you walk up to the register, there is a nice huge menu perched high above the counter to peruse and an eye level case filled with appetizers and sweet treats. Once you order and pay the cashier, a number is given to put on whatever table you’d like to sit at. Drinks are self serve for soda, tea and water. They deliver your order to your table once it’s ready.

I like the nice high tables with the comfortable stools that have a back to them. Also the bench seats are good as well.

Citrus Grilled Chicken

Regal Crest natural cage-free chicken breast, caramelized onions, cilantro, mojo

The mojo sauce (Cuban olive oil, citrus & garlic sauce) is quite addicting, especially when you dip a bite of grilled citrus chicken into it, or just pour it all over your food! Yum. The plantains are lightly grilled and pleasantly sweet. Fricase de Pollo is fall off the bone, deep flavor delicious. Everything in this dish has rich, wonderful flavors. The papa rellena is quite good, mild potato flavor with flavorful meat mixture inside.

Next visit I’d like to try one of the pork sandwiches.
