It’s been awhile since I’ve been out here. My preschool was nearby. Lots of places to fix up your car across the street. I came to try the Jamaican food. I’ve never been to Jamaica to try Jamaican food at it’s source but I had good Jamaican food in the Cayman Islands. Allspice, nutmeg, and 5 spice powder in Jamaican recipes result in some delicious spicy food. Atmosphere at Rock Steady has a mellow island vibe.
I love how they have a banana tree by the side of the building. I was tempted to pick one but they weren’t ripe yet.
Large oxtail dinner had a good amount of tender meat but there were some chewy bits I didn’t eat. Flavor was vibrant and had a spicy kick. I liked this dish a lot. It was spicy and I needed a bottle of water afterwards. The rice had a flavor I didn’t like and I didn’t eat it.
Fried chicken here was unlike any I’ve had before. After the chicken was deep fried it was covered with brown sauce. Flavor of the fried chicken mixed with the sauce resulted in a savory dish which tasted awesome. Jerk wing was tender, juicy, and spicy.
Beef meat pie had a crunchy crust and the beef filling was nicely seasoned.
Mango ice cream imported from Jamaica was rich and creamy with a strong mango flavor.
Rock Steady is a great place to relive the island vibe and the nice waitress was quite helpful. Look over the fence in the parking lot and see the lovely plants Rock Steady’s neighbors grow. It’s a nice break from the sterile office buildings I’m use to seeing.

Love their curried chicken! Lovely pictures of the front facade. Wonder if they ever give away any of those bananas?
You should ask for a banana next time we visit!
So Rock Steady is the old “Island Spice”.
That is what I heard. I didn’t visit when they were Island Spice.
