I started day 2 of my Del Mar Fair adventure at Reno’s Fish & Chips. You can read about Day 1 here. This time I went with my old favorite fried cod and zucchini.
This meal came with less zucchini. 2 pieces instead of 4. Zucchini tasted great just like last time. Cod was cut into fatter pieces that were tender, flaky, and juicy. Tempura batter gave it salty fried flavor. Much tastier than the fried catfish I had last visit. This is one of my fav spots to eat fried cod.
I walked through the buildings where they sold all sorts of gadgets you never knew you needed. Then I went to the building flowers are exhibited. In addition to looking at the lovely flowers I like to breathe in the scents.
I like the roses the best as they have a sweet bold scent that excites my brain centers.
I spent some time looking at the Student Showcase. There were some amazing furniture in the woodworking area. I took a year of woodshop in Junior High and a pump lamp was the coolest thing I ever made. There was also some pretty good photography.
For dinner I tried Biggy’s Meat Market.
They smoked their meats over pecan wood in the smoker.
I ordered The Big Rib for $18 and the biggest beef rib I’ve ever seen.
Rib was coated in dry rub and had delicious flavor but it was a bit hard to chew as the cooking process hardened the outside of the rib to a jerky like texture. Underneath the beef was tender and juicy like thick steaks I’ve had. Bbq sauce was a little spicy and a little tangy.
It was an interesting experience eating a rib this big. While I enjoyed it I prefer regular size ribs I get at places like Corbin’s Q.
Waiting till almost sunset we went on the Ferris Wheel.
I love watching as the sun is about to set into the ocean from up high.
The clouds were lovely that evening.
Also it’s fun looking at the fair from above.
As the light began to fade we rode a double decker bus to the parking lot.
I loved the view from up high as our day at the fair ended.
Cathy of mmm-yoso!!! visited too.
Great day! Just loved viewing all the flower entries. The Ferris wheel was the perfect way to end the day.
Yes it was fun and delicious. 🙂
Yikes . $18 for a single beef rib. I would have saved the bone for Lifu 🙂 I also don’t like it when the exterior is tough like bark/jerky.
I went on a Ferris wheel once and it scared me so badly. But wow, the pics of the views you took were beautiful.
That bone would have been a huge meal for Lifu! Most bbq spots I go to don’t have a chewy bark on their ribs. I wonder what the secret it.
What scared you about the Ferris wheel? I found it calm and relaxing. 🙂
Your photos make the Fair look so glamorous. I’m afraid of heights; won’t even go to the top level of the double decker. I’ve always wondered about those Big Ribs. Thanks for taking one for the team!
Thanks! The Fair is pretty awesome. Bummer you never went on top of the double decker or the ferris wheel. The perspective is quite different from up above. Maybe the Big Rib might be better if you get one right after it’s ready. At dinner time with no knife that tough outer layer makes it hard to eat.
