Wailua Shave Ice – Kauai

I visited Wailua Shave Ice as the sun was setting on Kauai.  Strings of light illuminated the twilight.

It was still very warm and the perfect time for a shaved ice.  Instead of using a high fructose corn syrup they use fresh local fruit.  Orange juice, pineapple juice, & pineapple orange fruit topping made up the Wailua Sunrise I chose.

I watched as they added the ingredients to the fluffy shaved ice.

I felt bliss as fluffy ice graced my tongue and melted revealing the delicious flavors.  The juices aren’t as thick as syrup and quickly ran to the bottom of the cup.  I dug a trench to the bottom and mixed the ice and juice together.  Instead of an artificial sugary flavor this shaved ice was more like fruit juice.  I like the flavor of this concoction and how it’s healthier.

 

As night surrounded us we headed back to our resort in paradise.
