I drove by Farmer Boys on the way to the buffet at Valley View Casino many times. As the years went by open space, farms, and houses disappeared mall rose up. As Valley View grew more popular the buffet line got to long for me and I stopped going. I don’t see any more farms in Escondido but Farmer Boys is still here. I visited for Yelp Elite Week.
I tried a combo with fried zucchini, onion rings, and a 1/3lb burger. Fried zucchini was cut into huge spears, battered, and fried. Lots of fresh zucchini flavor with some seasoning from the batter. Onion rings also had lots of onion flavor and some seasoning from the batter.
My 1/3lb burger came with lettuce, tomatoes, and bacon. Liked the combination of flavors from the toasted bun, fresh produce, and the savory bacon and beef. This would be a great burger with a double beef pattie.
Vanilla shake was cold, rich and full of vanilla flavor. Made with Thifty’s ice cream a favorite of mine since I was a kid getting cones at the counter.
2nd visit I tried the 4 piece fish and chips dinner. This was enough food for 2 people. I gave my salad and ciabatta bread to Maggie. Fried cod was coated in a crunchy tempura batter. I loved how the salty batter gave the mild tasting cod a delicious flavor. One of the best fried cod dishes I’ve found in town. Fries were crunchy and had delicious potato flavor. Love the high quality oil they fry with as these fries didn’t have any funky flavors or aftertaste.
Cookies and cream shake had a mix of vanilla and cookie flavor. Tiny bits of Oreo cookie were crunchy and full of flavor. Best shake I’ve had at a fast food restaurant.
Lately I’ve tried these fast food spots: Arby’s, Wendy’s, and Carl’s Jr. I prefer the farm fresh flavors at Farm Boys over those places.

The hamburger looked dry – you don’t like mayo/mustard/etc? I like extra mayo . The fried cod sounds amazing. I’d order that with the fried zucchini. Never heard of this place – is it worth the longer drive?
I would not drive 30 minutes just to get fish and chips but I would stop by if I was in the area for something else like stocking up on gelato at EscoGelato or going to the Wild Animal Park.
