There is a sense of age here. Rocks at the bottom are 2000 million years old while the top layer is only 270 million years old. Different layers of the canyon reflect different colors. The effect is lovely.
I’ve visited twice in the winter and each time there has been snow on the ground. I like how the whiteness adds another dimension to the beautiful scenery. I saw a deer in the distance.
Various birds make their home here.
I found a spigot where you could drink spring water from the Grand Canyon itself. It was cold, clean, and refreshing. Flavor a bit like Palomar Mountain Water. Next time I’m gonna bring some empty bottles so I can bring some home. The water is sourced from Roaring Springs.
Grand Canyon Railway which started service in 1901 will transport you from Williams and they have a Polar Express in December.
The Hopi House built in 1905 to display Indian Art by Mary Colter is modeled on 10,000 year old pueblo buildings. Inside is a gallery of Indian Art and gift shop.
There are many trails to hike and lovely trees to behold. The staff were nice and helpful. I had a great afternoon at the Grand Canyon. For my 2 visits in the winter it was very cold and not too crowded while my visit in the summer this place was packed with people everywhere.
This year we decided to spend Christmas in Arizona. Merry Christmas!

Brrr, super cold day! We will have to visit again together soon!
I’m looking forward to visiting again with a couple of empty gallon water bottles so I can drink some more of the tasty spring water. 🙂
Brilliant idea about bringing empty bottles. I bet the water tasted so amazing and cold.
It was as good as gallon sized bottled water I buy at the grocery store. I think I’ll go again same time next year. In the summer it gets too crowded to find parking near the water spigot. Maybe I can bring some 3 gallon bottles I normally use to refill at the water machines…
Happy holidays Soo! Grand Canyon is beautiful. We visited in October a few years back and it was already chilly! Stay toasty!
Happy Holidays Lynn! I spent a few nights in Williams and it was freezing at night so my body was use to the cold. 🙂 Snow boots helped too.
