Solvang Restaurant

I remember each Christmas the colorful twinkling lights, the fresh scent of pine, and presents around the Christmas tree.  The days before Christmas I would wonder what was under the festive wraps.  All except for one.  I knew what was in the round metal container.  Every Christmas my mom would buy Danish butter cookies.  I liked the buttery flavor and my favorite were the cookies with the big sugar crystals.  Till now that was the extent of my experience with Danish food.  For our most recent road trip Maggie wanted to visit the Danish town Solvang.  This was my first visit to a Danish town and I was excited to eat in a Danish restaurant.

Menu

We decided to visit Solvang Restaurant.  Solvang Restaurant had a good number of Danish dishes.
Breakfast crowd.

Chicken noodle soup was made in house with a mixture of white and dark meat chicken.  Chicken was tender with rich chicken flavor.  Broth was full of chicken flavor.  This is the best chicken noodle soup I’ve had.  There was lots of chicken and the broth amazing.
History of Aebleskiver

Aebleskiver with raspberry jam.

Alot of jam is consumed here.

Aebleskiver looks like a dough ball and taste like a cross between a pancake and a muffin.  The recipe by the original owner Arne Hansen includes the addition of powdered sugar and raspberry jam to add some sweetness.  Nice Danish treat.

2nd visit.  Side of Danish sausage was a bit like an Italian sausage.  Flavor was mild and savory with a hint of sweetness.  Very tasty.
Danish meatball and sausage.
Danish meatballs were a mix of beef and pork.  Beef flavor tasted a bit stronger of the two.  Unique flavor was enhanced by the brown gravy.
3rd. visit.  Danish ham had a mild salty flavor.  Reminds me of Dubuque Royal Buffet ham in the can my mom bought when I was a kid.
Fried chicken and waffles.  Waffle was crispy on the outside and fluffy inside with nice waffle flavor.  Fried chicken had crunchy honey flavored batter while the chicken was tender and juicy.  Reminds me of Brian 24’s honey stung fried chicken.
Complimentary soda water.

Danish art.

Take home and make your own treats.

I really enjoyed my Danish food experience and their take on chicken noodle soup was awesome!  Next visit I’m gonna call ahead so I can visit when they have chicken noodle soup. They have a different soup each day.
