Island Spice Restaurant

I was lucky enough to win a trip to Cayman Brac once.  The island food was amazing.  Fresh seafood was in abundance and the seasonings and preparation resulted in vivid flavors.  I was looking forward to trying some island food at Island Spice.

I started with the fried red snapper.  Looked like the fish was just dropped in the fryer.  Fish was a little dry and light on flavor.  I prefer my red snapper battered in southern style spices then fried.

Next I tried the oxtail.  Portion size is the biggest I’ve seen in town.  Nice aroma and flavor from the sauce the oxtail is served with.  Website indicates there is scallion, thyme, and Jamaican Spice in this dish.  I enjoyed the flavors from the sauce and the tender meat.  It was a bit hard to eat though as the fat/tendon was chewy.

Island Spice has some good oxtail but I still long for the delicious island food I ate on Cayman Brac.  Kirk of mmm-yoso has visited Island Spice too.
We painted a rock and left it on Cayman Brac at the Reef Resort.

  1. Wow that’a a blast from the past. Wonder if our rock survived the hurricane?

  2. We should go and check on it! That was a cool rock.

  3. Island spice was much better when they were at the old location. I thought Caribbean Taste was better.

  4. I liked Caribbean Taste better too.

  5. I wonder what their best seller item is? Oxtail sounds like what I’d want to try! I’m very picky on how I like my fried fish though.

    1. It seemed like jerk chicken was very popular. I like the oxtail as my mom made oxtail for me when I was a kid.
