This neighborhood looks different than the first time I visited. There are less old houses. Instead fancy looking apartments are popping up. I hoped Las Cuatro Milpas isn’t gentrified. Downtown’s skyscrapers seem closer every year. Las Cuatro Milpas has been here since 1933.
The menu here is pretty small but they have tacos and that is what I’m here for.
Step inside and you can watch them frying tacos.
Tortillas are made in the back.
5 rolled tacos for $5 was a good size meal. Meat to tortilla ratio is the best I’ve found in town. Tortillas are crunchy and have a nice greasy fried flavor. Shredded pork was tender and plentiful. One thing I’d prefer is they season the pork more. I like eating my rolled tacos plain and El Indio is the only place I’ve found where they season the meat enough for you to eat the tacquitos plain.
2nd visit I tried the chicken and 2 pork tacos. Both tacos featured crunchy taco shells which had delicious fried flavor. I tried the plain tortillas before and they are among the best tasting I’ve had. I suspect they are cooked in lard.
Chicken taco had tender chicken which had a delicious flavor. Nice big pieces of chicken like you get in homemade chicken soup.
Pork taco was stuffed with lots of tender delicious pork. I really enjoyed how they marinated the pork so it was full of flavor.
I loved how the tacos had huge amounts of meat and the mix of flavors from the taco shell and the marinated meat.
Prices are low and the workers very nice.
Sometimes there are vendors outside selling things like cute turtles.
Joy has visited too.
