The Crown and Anchor

I sailed on a restored sailing ship once.  It was amazing gliding over the water with the wind at our backs.

There are a great many models of British sailing ships at Crown & Anchor.

It gets loud during happy hour when the beer is $4.

Menu had many British pub favorites.

I chose the chicken pot pie.  Crust was flaky and buttery.

Beneath was a soup like broth with peas, onions, carrots, mushrooms, and a mix of white and dark meat chicken.  I like this pie but I wish there was side/bottom crust.

2nd visit.  This time I ordered the fish and chips.  Chips had a crisp outside with lots of potato flavor inside.  Tasted great with a bit of salt.  Fish was Icelandic cod coated in a crunchy beer batter.  Cod was moist and tender.  I liked the mild fried flavor blended with the light beer flavor.
I also sampled the beef and mushroom pie.  Tender chunks of beef in a rich burgundy sauce.  Great dish as long as you like the strong burgundy flavor.
Wait staff was nice and took good care of us.  I love visiting this British pub when I’m in Monterrey.  It’s a fine tribute to the olden days of sailing ships.
