I first visited Las Vegas back around 2000. Work sent me to Comdex and the town was filled with techies. I loved seeing the bright neon at night. Freemont St. was filled with casino’s and flashy neon signs enticing you to enter and never leave.
October 27, 2012 the Neon Museum opened dedicated to preserving neon signs. As new casino and hotels are built the old neon signs are displaced. The Neon Museum tries to save and restore those old signs.
October 22, 2019 We visited the Neon Museum a week after Lost Vegas: Tim Burton @ The Neon Museum show opens.
There are a multitude of his sculptural and digital works which celebrate his link to Las Vegas neon.
Many of the museum’s neon collection is featured in Mars Attacks! Burton’s b-movie homage.
It was amazing seeing Burton’s work alongside the museum’s collection.
Our visit was late in the evening so the neon lit up the darkness as it did back in the day.
Loved seeing the history of Las Vegas through it’s neon signs.
Gift shop had cool looking t-shirts and books on Las Vegas.
I bought one shirt and one book. It was nice looking at pictures of the old neon attached to the old buildings that now live on in our memories and museums like this one. The museum doesn’t allow cameras so I shot everything on my Iphone 11. The low light ability was impressive.

It’s nice to see the old signs get to live on at this museum! My favorite was the seahorse one.
The seahorse was cool. There were lots of great signs!
