The Who – Going Mobile

When I got my first car I loved driving through Poway. It was the perfect place for a Sunday drive through the countryside. Now there are less trees and more buildings. Progress.

First thing I notice in the parking lot is the magical scent. Hickory smoke escaped from Kaminski’s.

Inside there are tv’s and sports memorabilia.

I find a comfy booth and order a combo with baby back ribs and beef ribs. Chips were crunchy and had delicious potato flavor. I have eaten lots of different store bought chips but none had a fresh fried flavor like these. Beef rib was big and had a ton of tender beef which fell off the monster size bone. A hint of hickory smoke and the sweet sauce enhanced the beefy flavor. Baby back ribs were tender and had a strong hickory smoke flavor to balance the sweet sauce. I love the sweet sauce which the waiter said was a mixture of sweet Texas and South Carolina style sauce.

There weren’t any live sports on when we visited for lunch so 80’s rock tunes filled this huge restaurant. Half the restaurant was setup for a wedding. There were tons of board games available to keep you occupied while you wait for your meal. Service was excellent. This place is a good bbq joint to visit when you need a break from dry rub based bbq joints like Coop’s or Grand Ole.

Most current visit was after Kaminski’s was closed due to the Poway water problem. Sunday at 1:30pm the place was packed with people watching various football games.

I ordered a full rack of beef ribs which was $40 with tax.

Seemed expensive but I did have leftovers so it was 1 1/2 meals. Beef ribs were huge with lots of very tender beef. I loved the hickory smoke flavor and sweet and slightly tangy bbq sauce mixed with the delicious beef. I also had a side of potato chips. Delicious fresh fried potato flavor with just a bit of salt.
