Scent of smoke is in the air. My heart is beating faster. Lips wet in anticipation. Feels tender in my mouth. Good amount of fat. I bite down and juices fill my mouth. I taste smoky beef, fat, and dry rub. So good.
I savor the delicious flavors.
J. tells me the beef brisket was smoked with red oak.
They have some homemade bbq sauce here but I didn’t try any as the brisket already taste so good it didn’t need any sauce.
Drink selection was Swell brand bottled soda and bottled water.
I tried a Blueberry Swell. Sweet with a nice blueberry flavor.
2nd visit I tried a rack of baby back ribs.
Ribs were tender and full of smoky flavor. I added some house made sauce. Sauce added a bit of sweetness and a little tangy flavor. Very fresh just out of the smoker aroma.
3rd visit I tried the pulled pork. Tender and full of smoky flavor. Tasted great with the addition of a bit of the sweet sauce.
Smoking J’s has some great bbq.
The old Poway Park area of Poway offers rides on the Poway-Midland Railroad which features a 1907 Baldwin Steam Locomotive. In 1948 John S. Porter began his project to restore the area to the days of the old west. Historic buildings from around Poway were were moved to the park and restored. It’s great Smokin’ J’s has brought the old tradition of cooking with burning wood to this historic area. Beef brisket is the best I’ve found in San Diego.
I love visiting Saturday afternoon as I can visit the Poway Farmers Market across the street and get strawberries after I fill up on bbq.
