Solvang

Road to Solvang

Worldmark Solvang is the last place we stayed on our San Francisco road trip before heading home.  It’s under 4 hours to get to LA.

Morning in Solvang

Solvang is a nice Danish town and a great spot to relax.  Outside our condo I can hear the wind blowing through the leaves of the many trees lining the property.  Birds sing in the distance.    Each morning I walk to a different Danish bakery to sample the treats.  They were Olsen’s Danish Village Bakery, Danish Mill Bakery, Solvang Bakery, and Birkholm’s Bakery.  For lunch and dinner there are many Danish eateries to try out Danish food.  My favorite is Solvang Restaurant but Viking Garden Restaurant is really good.  Fitzpatrick’s Tavern has really good chicken pot pie.  Hitching Post II has delicious Santa Maria style bbq.  AJ Spurs has an old west dining experience.  Solvang Farmer’s Market has an amazing selection.  I visited during cherry season and they had some I had never seen before.
There are miniature ponies to see at Quicksilver Ranch.  One of my favorite places is Ostrichland where you can feed the Ostriches and Emus.
Sun rises on the Santa Ynez Mountains

Downside to Worldmark Solvang is that unless you are on the top floor you get to hear whatever is above you.  The worst is when someone with a bunch of kids moves in late at night when you are trying to sleep.  Luggage cart makes a lot of noise as the wheels roll over the doorway onto the tile.  Kids running back and forth sound like a herd of elephants.  I though I was free from the horrors of apartment living when I bought a townhouse but then I go on vacation…
