Get your kicks on route sixty-six.
Nat King Cole – Route 66
Sun shines brightly. Sand reflects the sun’s light and heat.
After hours of driving through the California desert we wanted to stop at a diner. California Classic Cafe is in a kind of industrial area. Seems kind of out of place as a diner in a small desert town would seem to belong in a more rustic setting.
Inside there is respite from the heat. Smells like breakfast.
There is a bunch of Route 66 stuff on the walls. California Classic Cafe is on Route 66. Back in 1926 Route 66 ran from Chicago to Santa Monica. I imagine a trip across the country on Route 66 would have been epic back in the day.
I picked the Supreme Platter as there was a good sampling of meats. Scrambled eggs were fluffy and had a nice fresh egg flavor. Glazed ham had a tasty sweet and savory flavor. Tri-tip had a delicious beefy flavor. Homestyle potatoes were crispy and had a delicious potato flavor.
Biscuit was fluffy and had a nice mild flavor while the gravy added savory flavor.
Staff was friendly and attentive. I enjoyed my meal here and there are a bunch of other attractive items on the menu for next time.
One day it would be cool to drive along Route 66 and see the sights that began America’s car culture. Today though I have to continue on our road trip to Las Vegas.

They sure do have delicious breakfast items!
We should go to Vegas again!
