You can smell the smoke a block away. I lucked out and found parking along the street in front. Scent of smoke is much stronger now. I walked over to the side of the building and found the source.
Smokers in the patio cooking up a storm.
Piles of white oak are in the patio.
Inside artwork covers the walls.
I order a rack of ribs.
Ribs are juicy and tender. Love the mix of flavors from the smoking, dry rub, and the sweet sauce.
I noticed lots of seating outside and a good amount inside. Interesting contrast between the non-descript front entrance and the richly decorated inside. Staff was friendly and brought my order out quickly during a busy Sunday lunch.
2nd visit I tried the beef brisket. Very tender and moist beef. Very thin outer layer of juicy fat and a dry rub crust. Loved the mix of flavors from the smoky beef, dry rub, and the sweet sauce.
Lemon cake was fluffy and moist with light lemon flavor. Frosting had a strong make your lips pucker sour lemon flavor.
3rd visit. Chicken quarters were dripping that sweet sauce. Tender. Delicious smoky flavor was enhanced by the sweet sauce.
Rib tips were tender and juicy with a bit of fat. Loved the smoky flavor and that sweet sauce that coat all their meats with.
Talked to the owner and found out he specializes in East Texas bbq which is slow cooking with a sweet tomato based bbq sauce. Staff was also very friendly and let me take photos of the smokers out back. I’m a huge fan of Coop’s West Texas bbq but now it’s gonna be hard deciding where to go when I’m craving Texas bbq.
