I visited Scripps Ranch often when my kid was in town. We loved biking around Miramar Lake and feeding the ducks. It was a quick getaway from the city.
The French Oven is in a part of Scripps Ranch I haven’t visited. Place is popular in the mornings. I tried some French treats.
Croissant had a thin crunchy outer layer and buttery layers inside. Delicious buttery flavor. Ranks among my favorite.
Apple turnover was ok. Pastry seemed to have absorbed the moisture from the filling and was mushy. I liked the apple filling. It wasn’t too sweet so you could really taste the apple flavor. I was surprised the apple turnover didn’t have that freshly made aura as they opened at 7am and I arrived to make my purchase at 8am and had eaten the turnover at 9am. I like to hit bakeries when they open so I don’t get treats that have been sitting around all day and have lost that crunchy fresh baked aroma.
Almond croissant had a crunchy outer layer with soft buttery insides. Loved the mix of flavors from the sweet almond paste and the sweet buttery pastry.
Pear tart had a crunchy bottom layer with a sweet buttery flavor. The bottom was very much like a shortbread cookie. Top layer was creamy with a delicious pear flavor.
French baguette has a thin crispy layer with soft layers beneath. Loved the flavor.
Looks like I’m late to the party to write about The French Oven as Kirk has visited.
