Nice of Handel’s to open a location near me. In the past I drove up to the Encinitas location. I noticed that location has been renamed Cali Cream Homemade Ice Cream. I arrived around 8pm and that appears to be the busiest time as there were 10-12 parties in front of me. Next time I’ll try a weekday lunch visit.
Black cherry ice cream has a sweet cherry flavor with little bits of cherries which were an explosion of cherry flavor in my mouth. One of my favorite flavors.
Orange dream was a mix of tangy orange and creamy vanilla. Delicious mix of flavors.
Watermelon ice was sweet, icy, and was like a watermelon slushie only frozen.
Vanilla was thick, creamy, and had a delicious vanilla flavor.
Cherry vanilla was just like vanilla being thick, creamy with vanilla flavor. The difference was the added maraschino cherries was gave this ice cram and extra sweet cherry flavor.
Lime was icy with a sweet flavor and a little of that sour lime flavor like I’ve had in shaved ice. One of my fav flavors.
Handel’s makes some great tasting classic ice cream flavors.
I wish they sold pre-packed quarts though. The problem with hand packed quarts is scooping the ice cream melts the ice cream touched by the scoop which then refreezes in my freezer so the texture tends to be inconsistent.

They do have yummy ice cream. Too bad it’s so expensive.
It’s not too expensive. $10/quart.
We’ve tried this place a few times and the lines are always sooo long! We love the cookie place next to them . I think the prices here are pretty reasonable esp if you compare them to Salt n Straw across the street. But sadly, we still prefer salt n straw 🙁 even though the prices there are ridiculous .
If you go on a weekday when they open I have not seen a line. I love Salt N Straw but they charge for a pint what Handel’s charges for a quart. What is your favorite flavor?
I’ll have to try more cookies from the cookie place but I wasn’t that thrilled by the sugar cookie.
