Julian Pie Company on Main Street looks like a historic house. Very nice design.
I went inside and found they sell cookies, donuts, and fruit bread in addition to pies.
Peach/apple pie had a crunchy crust with a buttery flavor I loved. Little pieces of cinnamon sugar on top were delicious.
Filling was mostly apple with a few peach slices. Overall this pie was too sweet and I had a hard time tasting the apple flavor. I think a bunch of sugar was added to the filling. Also I ordered a peach pie but I didn’t check it till I got home and found I had a peach/apple pie.
On their website they have a photo of a peach pie with regular crust rather than the crumb crust.
Oatmeal raisin cookie was soft and I loved the flavor of the oatmeal and raisins. Great tasting classic cookie.
Chocolate chip cookie with nuts had a fresh baked aroma and delicious chocolaty flavor. Very sweet.
Chocolate chip cookie plain version had tons of chocolate chips and was extremely sweet. Needed water afterwards.
White chocolate chip and cranberry cookie had a delicious mix of flavors from the white chocolate chips and cranberries. White chocolate chips made this cookie very sweet.
Apple cider donut with cinnamon sugar had texture of a cake donut. Loved the apple cider and cinnamon sugar flavor. This was my first apple cider donut and I’m a big fan now.
Julian Pie Co makes a delicious apple cider donut but I prefer Julian Cafe or Apple Alley pies. The cookies are very sweet and adding chocolate chips makes them too sweet for me. I’ve also tried their pies at the grocery stores both baked and frozen and found them to be too sweet as well. I’m sad Julian Cafe and Apple Alley pies aren’t available at San Diego grocery stores as they are just the right sweetness so you can taste the apples and don’t need a bunch of water afterwards.

Perhaps they will start making reduced sugar pies someday. Too sweet is not good.
It’s unlikely as they are making tons of money selling sugar filled pies.
I haven’t had one of these pies in years. They’re readily available everywhere at this point fresh/frozen but as noted I find them way too sweet and commercialized. I’d rather drive to Julian and get a pie directly from one of the smaller vendors, since that’s part of the fun of having one of these treats.
You are wise. So far Julian Pie Company is my least favorite Julian pie maker.
