The drive to Julian on the 79 highway was beautiful. I saw fields of green and Lake Cuyamaca. So relaxing.
I first visited Mom’s in May on a Friday so Julian had some tourists but wasn’t crowded. I had a lovely time enjoying the small town ambiance. I watched as the wind blew flower petals from the trees onto the ground in shower of white. The very top of the hill was covered in bright green.
Walking through town there were many options for pies. Pies were plentiful and there was no line at Mom’s.
You can peer through the window as see what they are baking. Always something fresh out of the oven.
Apple/Cherry pie had a delicious buttery crust and sweet filling. The mixture of apple and cherry was mostly sweet but the cherries seemed a bit tart. I’m not a fan of cherries in pie so I wouldn’t get this pie again. Cinnamon ice cream was sweet, creamy, and had a delicious cinnamon flavor. Taste just like Niederfrank’s cinnamon ice cream which I love.
Chicken pot pie had a tasty buttery crust. I enjoyed the moist and tender chicken pieces, gravy, and carrots. Very good tasting pie.
Banana nut bread was moist and full of delicious banana flavor
Staff was friendly and quick getting orders out.
My most recent visit to Julian was the most lovely. A few days earlier a winter storm hit the mountains and dropped off a foot of snow. I remember in the days of my youth we would drive up and park by the side of the road. We would then look for an incline where we could sled down with our big inner tube. There were snow ball fights and snowman building before we were done.
For old times sake I grabbed a fist full of powdery snow and formed a snowball. I let it fly into the trees.

Great photo’s of the snow filled countryside! Too bad they had such a long line last visit.
Thanks! I love the snow!
It’s awesome you’ve enjoyed this place overall – it’s my favorite of the pie shops in Julian. If I eat pie it’s usually cherry since I love the tartness, and the apple-cherry adds a little sweetness. Hopefully they are still doing well despite the decreased tourism.
I noticed on the news Julian was packed last weekend. I always visit on weekdays to avoid the crowds. Mom’s makes great tasting pies. I am very picky about which ones I like but I don’t hold it against them that cherries are tart.
