Shawarma Shack

I visited between lunch and dinner.  Turns out that’s not a good time to order the shawarma.

I ordered the fries and beef shawarma.  Fries were crispy with a nice fried potato flavor.  Beef had a nice marinated flavor.  Sadly most of the beef was dry.  Shawarma Shack isn’t that busy at 3pm on a weekday.

Beef shawarma was spinning on the spit for too long.
I also ordered a pita on the side.  They don’t make it here but it was fluffy and I liked the mild flavor.
2nd visit I tried a beef kabob plate.
Loved the fried potato flavor from the fries.  Pita was soft and fluffy with a nice mild flavor.  Beef was soft and tender with a texture like it was shredded and reformed.  A bit like a meat ball.  I liked how the beef was seasoned.  You can tell it’s a Mediterranean dish.  Great tasting meal.

Owner was nice and got my order out quickly.  When it’s not busy I’ll stick with the made to order items like the beef kabob.
Maggie loved the baklava.

  1. Yes they do a wonderful job with the baklava! That’s good you liked your beef kabob.

    1. They make a good beef kabob!

  2. For a second I thought this was a brick-and-mortar location of the Shawarma Guys (the truck in Golden Hill) but I see now that it’s different. Made-to-order is definitely the way to go here. Anything on a vertical spit/trompo is going to dry up unless you have food flying out the door like Tacos El Gordo. I know they do it for ‘show’ (look! we’re authentic!) but so many people end up saying the meat is dry, so I wonder if it actually hurts their business in the end.

    1. You are wise. If they aren’t busy I’d periodically do some trimming for free employee meals instead of having it dry out.
