The drive to Julian in the winter was lovely.
It snowed a few days earlier and the hills were covered in a blanket of white.
I stopped to enjoy the snow before continuing on to Rongbranch Cafe.
Chicken noodle soup was full of tender breast meat chicken. Chicken was well marinated with salt and pepper. Loved the flavor of the chicken broth and noodles.
Chicken pot pie had a thin pastry filling. Interesting. Most of the time I eat pie with a thick crunchy crust like at Marie Calender’s. Tender breast meat chicken was nicely seasoned. Loved the flavor of this pie.
Apple crumb pie had a thick top crust which was hard to cut through.
Tons of sweet cinnamon flavor contrasted with the very mild flavor of the apple filling. Great tasting pie as long as it’s eaten in very small quantities as it is very sweet.
2nd visit I tried the fried chicken dinner. You get half a chicken which turned out to be a small chicken. I liked the crunchy batter which was nicely seasoned with salt and small amount of pepper. Chicken was tender and moist. Onion rings had a crunchy batter and delicious onion flavor. Fries were hot out of the fryer with crispy outside and delicious potato flavor.
The fried chicken was good but the chicken pot pie is my favorite menu item here with the chicken noodle soup a close second. Staff was nice and I liked walking through the gift shop that is part of the cafe.
The drive up was amazing. Clouds covered the mountaintops. Most of the time I only see the clouds looking upwards. Being inside a cloud is an amazing experience.
It was exhilarating feeling the wind pushing clouds past us. I felt the moisture in the chill air.
I spent the whole time at Rongbranch Cafe looking out the window watching clouds drift through town. Living near the ocean I don’t get any snow or the chance to walk through clouds.

That’s great you found another chicken pot pie & soup you like. The drive definitely makes it worth the trip.
It’s fun trying chicken pot pie. 🙂
Sounds like a nice little place. I love the character of the stores and restaurants in Julian.
I’d go back for more chicken pot pie and chicken noodle soup. 🙂
