The plan was to visit Paula’s Pancake House but the 45 minute wait torpedoed the plan. Next the requirement we eat at a place in a one block radius led us to The Big Bopper Drive-In.
Looks like they are renting electric mini Jeeps from the parking lot. Place has all your classic drive-in food. I decided to try a cherry shake. I was hoping for some cherry ice cream goodness.
Instead the shake was pretty mostly just milk and very sweet with artificial cherry flavor. I drank some water instead.
Tri tip taquitos had a crunchy shell and a good amount of tri tip.
Sadly there wasn’t much flavor from the tri-tip. Wish they had marinated/cooked it with Santa Maria style seasoning.
The guy at the register was nice and food came out fast. I wouldn’t get a shake or taquitos here. Water was cold and refreshing. There was only one other customer for food but they rented lots of electric jeeps.

Wish the food was better. It was fun watching people drive by in the mini electric cars.
Guess there is a good reason Paula’s Pancakes had a huge line and there was no line at the Big Bopper.
The classic diner with a little something for everyone. If only it tasted better, especially the shake. In a town not built on tourism I don’t think this place would survive.
It’s a great candidate for a Restaurant Impossible makeover. The shake could be tasty with less milk and more ice cream while the meat could be great with the proper marinade.
