Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams Yelp #PassportToNorthPark

In days past I loved seeing the eerie green glow of neon on this block.  Pekin Cafe was next door and the friendly staff would fill you with tasty Chinese food.  Now Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams will be a light in the dark and keep you from going home hungry.

I was watching the lady making waffle cones while I waited in line.

It’s a labor intensive process as there was one employee spending all her time making them.  Fresh waffle cone was crunchy and had a strong butter flavor.  Taste just like a waffle with lots of butter on it.  I prefer my waffles plain so next time I’ll ask for a cup.

I had one scoop of Honey Vanilla which was bursting with sweet vanilla flavor.  Loved the thick creamy texture.

My other scoop was Wildberry Lavender.  Creamy and full of lavender flavor.  My second favorite flavor.

It’s exciting going to a new scoop shop as you never know what flavors will be available.

The Honey Vanilla was my favorite ice cream here and I bought a pint to go.  Thanks to Yelp CM Hannah and Jeni’s for the experience.  I noticed next door a new business has not replaced Pekin Cafe yet.

Neon lighting consists of brightly glowing, electrified glass tubes or bulbs that contain rarefied neon or other gases. Neon lights are a type of cold cathode gas-discharge light. A neon tube is a sealed glass tube with a metal electrode at each end, filled with one of a number of gases at low pressure. A high potential of several thousand volts applied to the electrodes ionizes the gas in the tube, causing it to emit colored light. The color of the light depends on the gas in the tube. Neon lights were named for neon, a noble gas which gives off a popular orange light, but other gases and chemicals are used to produce other colors, such as hydrogen (red), helium (yellow), carbon dioxide (white), and mercury (blue). Neon tubes can be fabricated in curving artistic shapes, to form letters or pictures. They are mainly used to make dramatic, multicolored glowing signage for advertising, called neon signs, which were popular from the 1920s to 1960s and again in the 1980s.
