Pete’s Seafood and Sandwich

 

 

 

Pete was managing the front of the house and very welcoming.

I ordered the fish and chips which featured fresh cod.

 

 

I asked about the sign with the haddock on it and was told they serve it as a special on Friday and Saturdays.

Fried cod had a crispy tempura batter.  Battered perfectly as there were no globs of batter.  Cod was excellent quality.

It was tender, juicy, and smooth.  I’ve found places that serve frozen cod the cod has hard spots where it didn’t freeze and defrost properly.  Flavor was very mild and I tasted mostly the fried batter.

Fries had a nice mild flavor.  I added a bit of salt and they were just the way I like them.

While I was eating my lunch Pete brought over a sample of haddock for me to try.  I loved it.  Fried the same way as the cod the haddock had a delicious flavor to it.

Texture was delicate and flaky.  I’ll have to visit again on a Friday or Saturday to get more fried haddock.

2nd visit I tried the fried haddock with onion rings.  Onion rings had a thin crunchy batter and sweet onion flavor.  Very tasty.  Fried haddock and a crunchy batter and delicate flaky haddock.  I loved the mild flavor of the haddock.

3rd visit I tried the cheesesteak sandwich which is the Tuesday special.

 

Huge sandwich was overflowing with steak.  Steak was tender and moist.  Minimally seasoned with salt.  Good amount of peppers and mushrooms.  Roll was fresh with a nice mild flavor.  Very good steak sandwich.  I would have added a bit more salt and pepper while cooking on the flattop.

IBC Root Beer was sweet and had that distinctive root beer flavor.  Very refreshing.

4th visit I went on the 3rd Tuesday of the month when Pete has his baked haddock special.

Haddock was tender and flaky with a mild flavor.  Ritz cracker bits were crumbled on top which added a Ritz cracker flavor which I love.  Great tasting dish.  Fries had a delicious flavor which was fresh just like I make at home when I get the oil temperature just right.

Customer service was excellent.  Food was prepared and served quickly.  Atmosphere was warm and inviting.  Great neighborhood hangout.   I like how Pete has various specials to keep the menu fresh.  I subscribed to his newsletter to keep up with the specials.
