I was here just a month ago to eat won ton soup at Saigon 5.
Now Mama Lin’s here.
I ordered the won ton soup with egg noodles. I had a bad feeling when I saw the garlic pieces floating on top of the soup. The bitter garlic flavor was the main flavor of this dish.
Egg noodles had a very mild flavor.
I liked the mix of pork and shrimp in the won tons. 3 slices of char siu had a nice 5 spice powder flavor. Overall this dish would be ok if I can order it with no garlic otherwise I wouldn’t get it again.
2nd visit I tried the beef short rib combo.
The combo came with green tea. I was expecting plain green tea like most of the Chinese restaurants I go to offer. I was surprised by how sweet it was. I gave it to Maggie but she didn’t want it either as it was too sweet for her as well.
Rice was very moist. I liked the light flavor. Beef was very tender and juicy. There was not enough beef to match the huge amount of rice. Also I didn’t like the flavor from being marinated in black bean sauce. I much prefer the flavor you get from Hawaiian places like Island Style Cafe.
Steamed broccoli was room temperature and had a mild broccoli flavor.
Cashier was nice and food came out when I was done shopping. I miss Saigon 5. They had a really delicious won ton soup.
Kirk of mmm-yoso!!! spotted Mama Lin’s last month.

Would you go back?
I might try the shrimp tempura or egg rolls…
Interesting. I was wondering how this place was. Thanks for the link.
You are welcome! I don’t like how they season the dishes here. They love flavors I try to avoid. 🙁
Change is inevitable but sucks when it comes at the price of great places with dishes we loved. Hopefully there are wonton soups elsewhere that will fill the void!
Sab e Lee has awesome won ton soup. It’s a much longer drive though. 🙁
