Venchi

New shops keep opening at UTC.  The latest in Venchi.  Venchi got it’s start in 1878 in Vanchiglia, Turin.  Silviano Venchi started experimenting with chocolate in a small shop.

They sell gelato by the pound rather than pints.

I ordered a half pound of vanilla which was rich and creamy with a sweet vanilla flavor.  I also ordered a half pound of stracciatella gelato.

It started with a vanilla gelato base and slivers of milk and dark chocolate were added.  Flavor was amazing.

It appears if you buy more than a pound of gelato you get an insulating styrofoam container.

I remember the supermarkets sold styrofoam coolers like this in the old days.

Mango was bursting with mango flavor.  Texture was smooth and creamy.  Delicious.

Lemon was bursting with lemon flavor.  Just like a frozen lemonade.  Loved the delicious lemon flavor.

I also tried a few of the chocolates.

Chocoviar Pishtachio

Chocoviar Pistachio featured dark chocolate with a pistachio center and pistachio bits gave the chocolate tons of pistachio flavor.

Stracciatella
Stracciatella

Chocoviar Stracciatella featured milk chocolate with chocolate cream filling and vanilla beans.  Loved the flavor which was like the gelato.

Chocoviar Arancia featured dark chocolate with blood orange filling.  Mix of bitter dark chocolate and sweet orange flavors.  I’d prefer less dark chocolate and more of the sweet orange flavor.

The chocolates are very good but what I really love is the gelato at Venchi.  Staff was nice and offered me samples to help me make my choices.

  1. The styrofoam containers are a nice touch. I’m sure they will be popular in that mall. Can’t believe the price of a box of chocolate!

    1. Yes. $18/lb is the most I’ve ever paid for gelato.
