Venchi has a gelato of the month and for August they had tangerine/passion fruit. I love those flavors individually so I had high hopes for the combination.
Tangerine/passion fruit was extremely tangy. While I enjoyed the fruit flavors I would only eat this flavor in very small quantities.
I tend to gloss over the service aspect when I eat out but the service here really stands out so I’m writing about it now. So when I arrive there were 2 parties being helped. One party leaves and the tall guy staffer goes to help the second party. I’m taking photos while I wait in line. After the tall guy is done assisting he walks off to the back. The female staffer that finished helping the 2nd party then helps someone who just walked in. When I tell her I was waiting longer she told me I wasn’t being helped as I was not standing next to the cash register. So there is no signage indicating you must stand by the cash register to be helped. After the female staffer was done helping the person that just walked in she walked off to talk to co-workers. She returned and assisted me as I was standing by the cash register and there were no other customers walking in that wanted help. I asked for a sample and was told I can only get a sample after paying for a scoop. I countered with: I want to buy a pound of gelato.
So Venchi wins the award for the worst customer service at an eatery in 2024. Bottega Italiana is looking more attractive for my gelato needs as they are also at UTC and have always provided good to great service in addition to their great tasting gelato. Also it’s only $14.50 for 16oz while Venchi is charging $18.90 for 16oz.

Damn, worst customer service…..that’s terrible.
It appears they pick and choose who they want to help.
