Ackee Tree The Real Jamaican Cuisine

I love eating oxtail.  Right now Havana Grill and Flavors of East Africa are my favorite places to get oxtails.  I noticed Ackee Tree had oxtails and gave them a try.

Ackee Tree offers a large or small portions.  I picked the large.  All dishes come with steamed vegetables, rice, and plantains.  Plantains were soft and had a slightly sweet flavor.  Rice was moist and had a mild flavor.  Oxtails were tender and covered in sauce which added a bit of heat to this dish.  Eating the oxtails reminded me of when my mom cooked whole fish.  Whole fish has a lot of bones to watch out for.  You gotta be very careful while eating the oxtails as they cut the oxtails down from it’s normal size and there are a bunch of loose bone fragments.  Very good tasting oxtails.

Empanada had a flaky crust and a tasty beef filling.

  1. They have many choices for chicken dishes. The empanada looks good.

    1. I’ll have to try the fried chicken next time.

  2. If you like oxtails, try Felix’s BBQ With Soul. I really liked the Southern Smothered Oxtails.

    1. Thanks for the tip! I have tried Felix’s oxtails. They are good but so far the mix of flavors from Havana Grill and Flavors of East Africa are my favorites.
