I noticed there was a new Hong Kong style place in Mira Mesa and went to give them a try. I remember coming to this mall alot when I had a paper route. Black Mountain Bicycles was here and I went for repairs and bought a few Nishiki bikes from them.
Fried chicken wings had a thin crispy batter and juicy chicken. I liked the flavor which had a hint of sweetness.
Fried noodles with shrimp featured their homemade noodles. Looked like lo mein. Noodles had a nice snap to them and there was a lovely aroma from the wok and a good amount of soy sauce flavor. Shrimp were good size, had a nice snap, and I liked the shrimp flavor. Very good dish but I would have liked a few more shrimp.
2nd visit I tried the half roast duck and bbq pork fried rice.
Duck had crispy skin while the meat was tender and moist. Loved the 5 spice powder flavor throughout. This is one of my favorite roast duck’s in town.
Fried rice had a nice smoky wok flavor. The bbq pork was a little overcooked and was not juicy. I suspect the bbq pork was perfectly cooked before being added to the rice and the additional cook time in the wok was too much. I did like the flavor. Next time I’ll order the fried rice with a different meat.
Mom Kitchen has some pretty good Hong Kong style food and the staff was nice and efficient.
