I remember Hillcrest In the early days. I ate at the Chicken Pie Shop and watched movies at The Guild Theatre on 5th Av. Much has changed. The Guild Theatre closed in 1997. The Chicken Pie Shop has moved to El Cajon Blvd. Coppertop Donuts opened in 2017. I visited them on Labor Day.

Crumbl Cookies
I remember my brother drove us to this area many times to visit Tower Records. It was exciting looking at the awesome art on the record covers and hearing the latest music. We ate once at a Swedish buffet near the post office once. It was ok but we didn’t have much interest in food […]
The Philadelphia Sandwich Co.
Philadelphia Sandwich Company has been in operation since 1979. I never saw it from the street as Denny’s blocks the view from Miramar Road. I noticed it one day as I was going to Denny’s.
The French Oven
I visited Scripps Ranch often when my kid was in town. We loved biking around Miramar Lake and feeding the ducks. It was a quick getaway from the city.
Azucar
I have a fondness for Cuban bakeries since I was introduced to Porto’s. Azucar is much smaller and during the apocalypse they have less options available.

The Daily Bagel
When I visit this little mall it’s usually to shop at Vons or to get chinese food at Shanghai Cafe. Lately I’ve been trying to visit more places within biking distance. I locked up my bike at the bike rack outside Vons and after picking up some groceries I visited The Daily Bagel.
