Julian is renowned for apple pies. In the old days there were enough Granny Smith apples to supply the local bakeries. Now most of the apples are imported. There are 3 main bakeries making pies. This day I visit Apple Alley Bakery.
Apple Crumb Pie
The London Bakery
Scent of apples and cinnamon draws me close. Fresh baked apple crumb pie leaks scents everywhere. Lovely sugary lumps form an uneven top crust. So unlike little sugar balls you find on dutch apple pies. These are huge in comparison.
Pie Snob
I remember my first apple pie at this hole in the wall little donut shop. Sweet scent of donuts wafted out to the street tempting me inside. My mom would buy me a donut if I was good. Eventually I wanted to try the apple pie. Donuts were my gateway dessert.
