I love visiting Old Town. Back in 1834 the Mexican government granted San Diego chartered town status. Lots of historical buildings to check out. My co-workers voted to have our monthly lunch at Casa De Reyes.

JV’s Mexican Food
Hot, crunchy, dripping oil. Generous amount of shredded, marinated beef. Great tasting beef taco.
Carmen’s Mexican Food
This little strip mall reminds me of olden times. It’s not shiny or fancy or modern.
El Gordo Mexican Food
There have been many restaurants here. My favorite was BBQ Chicken which closed around 2013. They fried their chicken in olive oil and was one of my fav Korean fried chicken spots. There is one left in CA https://bbdotqchicken.com/
Donato’s Taco Shop
I visited this place in the old days when the sign said Roberto’s. Now it’s Donato’s Taco Shop. I ordered a beef taco, carnitas taco, and horchata.
Juanitas Taco Shop – Encinitas
The small town ambiance is still here. I’ve driven by this old building many times. It’s not as crowded here as the new hipster places further down the road.
