One of the first grocery stores I shopped at was just a bit bigger than Bi-Rite. At the time I was just interested in getting 7Up and Hires Root Beer. Bi-Rite is more for gourmet cooks while that old grocery store was more for necessities and alcohol.

On a quiet Chinatown street you will find a nondescript shop with signage Mow Lee Co. and Chinese characters I can’t read. Yes I am the illiterate one in the family. Most will keep on walking but there are treasures inside.

Mid-Autumn Festival 2018
My mom started me on celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival. I remember the first time we went and bought Eastern Bakery moon cakes at Woo Chee Chong. I loved the pastry part and the lotus seed filling. Woo Chee Chong isn’t around any more and neither is my mom.
